by John Paul Moore
I’ve never made a fortune and it’s probably too late now.
But I don’t worry about that much, I’m happy anyhow.
And as I go along life’s way, I’m reaping better than I sowed.
I’m drinking from my saucer, ‘Cause my cup has overflowed.
I don’t have a lot of riches, and sometimes the going’s tough.
But I’ve got loved ones around me, and that makes me rich enough.
I thank God for his blessings, and the mercies He’s bestowed.
I’m drinking from my saucer, ’Cause my cup has overflowed.
I remember times when things went wrong, my faith wore somewhat thin.
But all at once the dark clouds broke, and the sun peeped through again.
So, God, help me not to gripe about the tough rows that I’ve hoed.
I’m drinking from my saucer, ‘Cause my cup has overflowed.
If God gives me strength and courage, when the way grows steep and rough.
I’ll not ask for other blessings, I’m already blessed enough.
And may I never be too busy, to help others bear their loads.
Then I’ll keep drinking from my saucer, ‘Cause my cup has overflowed
I'm thankful for God's love and grace and for watching over me and protecting me even in the times I have made unwise choices, I find myself reflecting on years past and the things I have been taught not only by words but by example. My parents were not perfect, but they were the best that I could ever ask for. Dad lived a quiet faith, and his favorite verse was Micah 6:8
"He has shown you, O man, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you
But to do justly,Who could ask for more?
A beautiful post, Cheryl! Always uplifting for me. Hoping we can make a quick visit work while you are here in Florida!! xo
ReplyDeleteThank you. I hope so too and you can meet Michelle and Oliver too!
DeleteCheryl: This is a wonderful post. It reminds me of my dad, who was always drinking his coffee from his saucer. He said it was to cool off the coffee but, like your poem says, I think there was a little more to it. Your parents did look happy in the photo and their home was absolutely beautiful. I agree with you about being a grandmother. It is the best thing in the world..Thanks for your visit to me..xxoJudy
ReplyDeleteDad and mom were happy together. My siblings and I have great childhood memories but also memories of when dad and mom were retired and how much our children liked to visit with them. Dad took them on tractor rides sometimes too. They had a lot of acreage and would walk the lane to pick blueberries, sugar plums, apples whatever was in season. I miss those times but I’m enjoying my own grandchildren now. Life is good! Thanks for stopping by

DeleteMy husband and I were just talking about how blessed we are and how God has taken care of us. I love the drinking from the saucer thought!
ReplyDeleteThat farmhouse was so pretty.
(And being a grandparent is one of the biggest blessings!)
It's great that you have a husband who also speaks about the blessings of the Lord in your lives it is the foundation that makes all the difference!
DeleteMay your joy continue to overflow!
Oops how did I post twice lol hiccups
ReplyDeleteOh, I love that poem, and actually just learned it this past Christmas, when a lady in our church brought each of us women in our church UMW group a cup and saucer and a copy of that poem attached to it as a special gift at our Christmas luncheon. In turn, I also found special cups and saucers and printed copies of that poem and attached them to the cups and gave them to the women folk in my family for Christmas! Thank you for sharing it here with all of us. Oh, I love the pictures of your parents and their home in Michigan...so beautiful. I know you miss them and their home. I certainly can relate. This was a lovely post today.
ReplyDeleteThat is a really sweet idea about attaching the poem to the cup with a saucer and nice for you to share with the ladies in your family. Might do something like that next Christmas.
DeleteThank you
Their farmhouse is postcard picture perfect! Like something you would see in a calendar. And the photo of your mom & dad is wonderful, they look so happy. Yes, I am familiar with this poem. It is so good! Thankfullness creates joy!
