Tuesday’s Trinkets and Treasures
I love this little teapot. It was made in England. I bought it in a cute little shop in Bloomington, Indiana. The cute tea towel came from the same shop.
My mothers dad was English. He liked tea. His parents immigrated from England to Michigans upper peninsula. Grandpa used to work in a bakery and loved it but when the family grew he started working at the iron ore mine for better pay. Grandpa and grandma had 8 girls and 2 boys.
I loved how grandma and grandpa used to cook and bake all sorts of things together. They also made Cornish Pasties, a cresent shape pie filled with meat and potatoes and veggies. It is a popular food in the upper peninsula introduced by the English. It was a good hand held meat and potato meal the miners who worked in the iron ore and copper mines could bring to work.
I loved spending time at my grandparents. They had many grandchildren but plenty of love to go around. I have many memories I could share but I’ll leave that for another time. I have had a delightfully busy day today with family.

That teapot is so cute! I loved reading about your grandparents coming from England to Michigan. And yes, pasties are so popular in the U.P.!
ReplyDeleteThanks, English and Finnish on one side Finnish on the other so I guess I am Finglish lol π whatever it what matters I am a child of God .
ReplyDeleteWhatever it is ❤️
ReplyDeleteLove your little English Teapot. Very classic! My grandmother loved to drink tea and that is where I think I picked that up. Until recently, when I did my ancestry.com dna test, etc. we didn't know that my Grandmother was actually part English. She was adopted as an infant and we didn't know her ancestry until I did the dna test. So now I know for sure where the love of all things tea came from!! So cool!. Love the little tea-towel too! I would love to visit the U.P. sometime.
ReplyDeleteThat’s neat! I never did the dna test but my sister and brother did and were mostly Finnish. My dad’s parents were both Finnish and my English grandpa married a Finnish lady so I guess I’m Finglish lol .. So many immigrants in upper peninsula mining country though a big percentage of mines are closed now . Iron ore and copper mines
DeletePrecious, precious memories! Big families are just the best!! Thank you for sharing the very special tea pot and towel with us! xo
